As part of our school curriculum Grades- 6 and 7 students visited a small-scale industry which is in the weavers’ colony at Payakaraopeta. Children understand better when they visit the workplace than the classroom. They had a fantastic experiential learning when they saw looms in action weaving sarees. Mr. Subramanyam elaborated the whole process involved in weaving a saree. He explained that they import the material from Bengaluru. He also shared about the time required to weave a saree. The children learnt the way of designing a saree in different patterns and they were surprised when they knew that each saree takes 30 to 40 days to weave based on the design. They also learnt that the wages of the employees are fixed based on their work. Finally, students presented a memento to Mr.Nageswararao, secretary of weavers’ co-operative society.
