Learning outcome: knowing the ways to do first aid for injuries.
As part of our curriculum, we invited Dr Ch. Lovaraju , M.S Orthopaedic Sahasra Hospital , Tuni as Athidi for classes IV and V.
He demonstrated the way we have to do first-aid for any sprain in ankle or at the joints, nose bleed and the two ways of treating fractures without any bleeding and complex fractures where the bone is exposed. He showed the way of doing first aid with the available things like cloth, cotton, wooden sticks or rulers by immobailising the fractured bone. In case of fingers, we have to use popsicle sticks or we can give support of the other finger by tying with a cloth to immobalise it. He explained how sprains occur in ankle and wrist, the first aid we have to do for it by using ice pack to soothe the swelling. He warned not to use own medication and advised to visit a doctor for better Treatment.
In case of nose bleeding, help the person relax, then give pressure on the nose and forehead by applying ice pack to stop bleeding.
Children had a splendid experience on doing first aid.
He interacted with the children and answered their queries. He advised the students to have foods rich in calcium such as leafy vegetables, egg, milk in their regular diet to strengthen their bones.
