Experiencing the process of cultivating paddy in fields

As a part of the lesson 'Food and Nutrition the children visited the paddy fields at Ramabhadrapuram. They have observed the paddy fields that are cultivated .  Mr. Lakshman Rao The farmer working in the field elucidated the different stages in cultivation  of paddy. First, preparing the soil through ploughing and watering the fields. Next, sowing the seeds and watering the fields at regular intervals. Later, when the plants are grown up to 2 cm, they separate the plants and plant  4 to 5 plants together. Then the weeds are removed from the fields. They use fertilizers to get more yields. At last they harvest the crops after 90 days. He also demonstrated the harvesting of the crops. The students experienced the harvesting of crops with his support. The students observed the rice grains and understood the grains are used as seeds too. The students observed other plants   around the fields such  as chillies, pumpkin, sapodilla, coconut, banana and papaya. They have understood the hard work of farmers from dawn to dusk and thanked them.
