Grade VII students embarked on a field trip to a small-scale industry located in Ramakrishna Colony, where they witnessed the art of sweet and snack making. The owner, Mr. Kanakam Durga Prasad, graciously hosted the students, providing a step-by-step explanation and demonstration of the production process. From sourcing locally available raw materials to utilizing machinery that simplifies the process, the students gained valuable insights into the industry's operations.
The industry not only provides employment opportunities to local women but also offers a daily wage ranging from ₹300 to ₹500. The packed food items are supplied to nearby villages, Tuni, and even distant cities like Vizag and Rajahmundry. The industry's diverse product range includes groundnut laddus, chekodi , mixture, bundi, jantukalu, and chekkalu, among others.
On a daily basis, the industry produces 22-30 boxes per item, utilizing 100 kilograms of flour in the process. The mechanical process employed by the industry has significantly enhanced productivity while reducing manual labour requirements.
The students had a wonderful time as they moved along the space enjoying the sweet smell of fresh jaggery, and crispy mumure and chegodies that filled the air.
They also learnt the humbleness of Sri. Durga prasad as he explained his intention of providing employment opportunity to the women folk of his village.
