As part of their experiential learning journey, grade 8 students visited a jaggery-making unit in Srirampuram. The hosts, Sri. Mandapati Satyanarayana Raju and his brothers warmly welcomed the students and shared their expertise on traditional, chemical-free jaggery production.
The students gained hands-on knowledge about the jaggery-making process, as well as insights into natural farming practices, sugarcane juice production, and cocoa plantation which was an intercrop in the coconut farm. They learned about the benefits of using natural materials like cow dung, cow urine, decomposed leaves, and earthworms as alternatives to chemical fertilizers and pesticides.
During their visit to the paddy field, along with Sri Raju Garu students realised the advantage of natural farming over conventional farming using chemical fertilisers and pesticides. Production of around 13,00 kilograms of rice per acre using eco-friendly methods gave the students a thought to realise the importance of natural farming.
The students expressed their gratitude to their hosts for sharing their knowledge and expertise, which broadened their understanding of sustainable farming practices. They presented a memento and books to Sri M Satyanarayana Raju and his brothers.
