This year, the ' Atidhi’ program started with Dr. T Ram Satyanarayana, senior optometrist, Lakshmi eye hospital, TUNI interacting with the students of grades VI and VII.
He gave a lively talk on the very basic issue of eye sight which has become a very common problem among the students right from a very young age. A blurred vision, eyes getting shrunk while watching television, getting tears from the eyes or feeling dryness in the eyes, getting frequent headaches, irritability are the symptoms of poor vision leading to decrease in the eye sight.
The children were quite at ease with the guest, asking him various questions related to the eye, such as How does blindness occur? At what age is generally an eye surgery done?
what are the measures that can be taken to have healthy eyes? etc. He answered all the questions making the students understand the need of taking healthy diet insisting on eating greens, fish and carotin rich foods.
Maintaining a proper and minimum distance of 35 cm between the eyes and book while reading, using eye comfort mode while watching mobiles, reducing screen time for long etc were some measures suggested by the doctor as a safety measure against decreasing eye vision.
The guest was presented with a memento at the end of the session.
