As part of our school curriculum, we have an audiologist cum Speech Language Pathologist,Dr.S. Lakshman visited our school to interact with the students of Grades-6&7. He started addressing the children by creating awareness about audiology and his role as an audiologist and speech language pathologist. He gave career guidance to children on how to become an audiologist. He explained to the children about the structure and function of ear. He also shared how sound travels from the external ear in the form of waves through air to the middle ear and finally to the inner ear.
He advised the children not to use ear buds to clean the ear as it may lead to the perforation of the eardrum. He explained that the usage of ear pods or earphones for a long time can damage the eardrum and lead to loss of hearing. He suggested using Dewax drops incase of any pain or itching in the ear. He told to use ear plugs or cotton to avoid sound pollution. He said below 25 decibels is the normal hearing range. Being a speech language pathologist, he treats stammering patients, teaching them how to speak. He helps to bring back to normalcy the mentally- retarded children.Over all the children had a good interaction with Dr.S. Lakshman.
