The Department of Biotechnology of SPACES Degree College was established in 2002. All the basic infrastructural facilities needed for conducting teaching and practicals have been developed in the Department. The department is provided with class rooms with audiovisual facilities, laboratory and more than 200 books in the library for course work and for competitive exams. Ms. M. Gowri served as the first Head of the Department. Currently, Dr A. Ramakrishna Reddy is the Head of the Department.
Many Students of this Department have qualified National level prestigious examinations for pursuing M.Sc like IIT – JAM, JNU - CEEB, VIT, HCU- CET, PCU -CET, CUET, and State level examinations like AUCET, SVUCET, APPGCET…etc. Several alumni of this department have gone abroad for further studies and many are carrying out Post Doctoral Research in several prestigious institutions such as National Institution of Nutrition (NIN), University of Alberta, University of Lausanne, University of Florida, St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, USA and some are working in Multinational Biotech industries such as European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), Germany, Bharat Biotech International, Dr Reddy’s Research Foundation, Indian Immunologicals Limited (IIL), Provis Biolabs, and in a number of small scale industries.
The Department is provided with the required infrastructural facilities for teaching and for conducting practicals. The following infrastructural facilities are provided in the Department.

In addition to the regular curriculum, the students of Biotechnology department also carryout projects to attain high quality exposure to the academic and industrial research. It not only provides the students with practical implementation but also develops more skills like problem – solving, critical thinking and time management.
