Dr. K.V. J.R. Gupta, a distinguished government veterinary doctor , alumnus of Sri Prakash, and the parent of our class student K. Yashveer Gupta visited our 6th class spaes section today and shared his extensive 16 years of professional experience in animal healthcare. He began by highlighting the significance of National Milk Day and acknowledged Dr. Verghese Kurien’s remarkable role in making India the world’s leading milk producer. Dr. Gupta explained key zoonotic diseases that transmit from animals to humans, focusing particularly on rabies, which spreads through the saliva of infected dogs, cats, monkeys and other animals. He also clarified the essential rabies vaccination schedule—to be taken on Day 0, 3, 7, 14, 28 and 90—for complete post-exposure protection.
He elaborated on brucellosis, caused by Brucella bacteria, which spreads through drinking unpasteurized (raw) milk, consuming unpasteurized dairy products, or handling infected animals. Symptoms such as fever, joint pain and sweating may appear intermittently over long periods, and the disease requires prompt antibiotic treatment. Dr. Gupta additionally discussed leptospirosis, transmitted through rats, and advised students to make their families aware of its risks.
He concluded with essential guidance on responsible pet care, including appropriate diets for puppies and the importance of timely vaccinations. He also explained the protective equipment veterinarians use and noted that more animals require treatment during the October–January breeding season. His session proved to be highly informative, systematic and impactful, deepening students’ understanding of animal health and its direct connection to human well-being.
