The students of Class VI welcomed Mrs. Vijaya, a dedicated Anganwadi teacher from PRP Kothuru, and the mother of our student Nithya sree, as our special Athidhi. She enlightened the children with her informative and inspiring session on nutrition, health, and good habits. She explained the importance of eating nutritious foods, especially porridge (poshika haram), which helps children improve their haemoglobin levels, stay energetic, and grow at least one inch every month.
She also described how Anganwadi centres carefully look after pregnant women, maintain their health records, and guide them about the essential foods to be taken, including Balamrutham, to ensure a healthy mother and healthy baby. Mrs. Vijaya shared that Anganwadi centres teach children aged 3 to 6 years through playful learning activities from 9 AM to 4 PM, helping them develop good habits and social skills.
She encouraged the students to eat leafy vegetables, even if they don’t like them, by mixing them in dal and squeezing some lemon for taste. She also suggested simple homemade nutritious snacks like coconut laddoos and sesame seeds laddoos to stay strong and healthy. She motivated the children to request their parents to prepare such healthy foods at home.
Through her meaningful guidance, the children learned many valuable points about the important role of Anganwadi Centres in supporting education, nutrition, growth, and community well-being.
