Education truly comes alive when it steps beyond classroom walls and into real-world environments. Embracing this philosophy, the students of Grade 7 and Grade 8 from Sri Prakash Vidya Niketan, Annavaram, along with their science teachers, participated in an enriching field trip to nearby paddy fields and polyhouses, gaining first-hand experience in agriculture and horticulture.
As part of the ‘POLAMBADI’ program initiated by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, students interacted with village agriculture assistants who introduced them to essential agricultural practices. They learned about seed treatment methods that improve germination and produce healthier crops. The students also witnessed the application of vermicompost—an eco-friendly organic manure that supports natural soil enrichment and high agricultural yield without the use of chemical fertilizers.
Throughout the visit, instructors answered students’ questions about crop duration, nurturing stages, organic manure application, and effective pest and disease management. Their patient and practical explanations deepened the students’ understanding of farming techniques and sustainable agricultural practices.
The experiential learning continued at a nearby polyhouse, where Mandal Agriculture Officer, Mr. Gandhi, explained how tomatoes and other crops are cultivated in controlled environments. Students observed how temperature, humidity, and light are regulated to ensure year-round plant growth and high-quality produce.
Back at school, the students expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the Mandal Educational Officer, who delivered an inspiring and informative session on agriculture. His detailed explanation of each step in the farming process sparked curiosity among learners and encouraged many to consider agriculture and horticulture as potential career paths.
To honor the valuable guidance provided, the Headmaster, Sri D. L. P. Raju, felicitated Regional Agriculture Director, Mr. Bullibabu, by presenting a memento. His presence and insightful interaction further strengthened the students’ appreciation for modern agricultural advancements and the opportunities they present.
The entire program proved to be a memorable and impactful experience, nurturing a deeper respect for farming and motivating students to explore the vast potential of agricultural sciences.
