Grade 5 students had a special Atithi in their classroom – Mrs. Sowjanya Grandhi, SBI Bank Manager. She visited our school to teach the students about financial literacy.
The Bank Manager explained many useful things about banking in a simple and interesting way. she told the students the difference between a credit card and a debit card. A debit card uses the money already in our bank account, while a credit card allows us to borrow money from the bank and pay it back later.
She also explained about saving accounts and current accounts. A saving account is used by people to keep their money safe and earn interest, while a current account is mostly used by business people for daily transactions.
The students were excited when she showed a debit card and explained the 16-digit number on it and the CVC number at the back, which helps keep the card safe. She also taught them about the cheque book, how people write cheques to pay money, and what information must be written on it.
Finally, she explained what a bank statement is. It is a record that shows all the money deposited, withdrawn, or spent from our account.
The students enjoyed the session because she used simple examples and real-life stories. She also answered many questions asked by the children. By the end of the visit, the students understood how banks work and why they are important.
