Project selected for National Children Science Congress-2015 and National Science Congress-2016

The project of Shafia from sriprakash vidyaniketan,Diwanchervu,Rajahmundry studying in class VIII is selected for National Children Science Congress-2015 and National Science Congress-2016. She presented her project on “Reduce carbon footprint & Save our planet”. Her slogan is ‘Be a part of a solution but not pollution’. The following abstract briefs us about her project.

Global Warming is a phrase that refers to the effect on the climate of human activities in particular the burning of fossil fuels (coal, oil and gas) and large scale deforestation which cause emissions to the atmosphere of large amounts of “Green House Gases” of which the most important is carbon dioxide which causes carbon footprint. Such gases absorb infrared radiation emitted by earth’s surface and acts as blankets over the surface keeping it warmer than it would otherwise be. Associated with Warming are changes of climate. The basic science of the “Green House Effect” that leads to the warming is well understood. Globally increasing temperatures are likely to have impacts on terrestrial, aquatic and marine eco systems that are difficult to manage. Many of the likely characteristics of the resulting changes in climate (such as more frequent heat waves, increase in rain fall, increase in frequency and intensity of many climate events) can be identified. Because of the negative impacts on human communities   (including for instance substantial sea level rise) and on eco systems, global warming is the most important environmental problem the world faces. Adaptation to the inevitable impacts and migration to reduce their magnitude are both necessary. International action is being taken by the worlds scientific and political communities because of the need for urgent action, the greatest challenge is to move rapidly to much increased energy efficiency and to non fossil fuel energy sources. Hence the reduction of non CO2 green house gases such as chloro fluoro carbons CH4 and N2O could lead to a decline in the rate of Global Warming, reducing the danger of dramatic climate change there by reducing carbon footprint.
