Field trip to Vermicompost and Biogas Plant

As  part of an educational field trip, Grade -3 CBSE- Tuni students were taken to the Biogas plant and vermicompost making unit, situated in our Payakaraopeta campus. Here students learned the working conditions of the ‘Biogas plant.’ They understood that if cow dung and urine are collected systematically, we can produce biogas from which electricity and cooking gas can be generated. They learnt that the digested slurry from the biogas plant can be used as a fertilizer for various crops. Children explored the making of vermicompost and understood it is a process in which the earth worms convert the organic waste into manure, rich in high nutritional content. In Payakaraopeta they use bed method for vermicompost where they put earth worms brought from Nuzividu in the layers of decomposable material and cover the top of the bed with gunny bags and sprinkle water regularly. They need to be kept in the bed for 3 to 4 months to turn into compost. The children were not only amused with but also enlightened by the trip as they had a live experience.
