The word in caps is taken from JAGANNATH, "Lord of the world,"one of our leading gods of the Hindus, a Hindi word that goes back to Sanskrit. Because of a story that frantic devotees allowed themselves to be crushed under the huge chariot wheels in a religious procession, the word JUGGERNAUT has come to mean an irresistible, ruthless force that destroys everything in its path, an engine or machine of destruction.
