As part of our Athithi Programme on 18-8-2026, our school welcomed Dr. Smt Sumayya , M.A., B.A.M.S., Diploma in Ophthalmology, who conducted an informative session on eye care and eye health for the students.
She explained the importance and functions of our eyes, describing them as “two tiny cameras,” and shared simple ways to maintain good eye hygiene. Students learnt to avoid touching or rubbing their eyes with dirty hands, keep classrooms and surroundings clean, and avoid sharing personal items.
She explained the 20:20:20 rule, students should maintain a distance of at least 20 feet while viewing a screen, and after every 20 minutes of continuous screen time or reading, they should blink their eyes 20 times. This helps prevent dryness and irritation of the eyes.”
She also highlighted the importance of proper lighting while reading, maintaining a reading distance of 35–40 cm, eating nutritious food, practising simple eye exercises, and getting about 8 hours of proper sleep.
The session was highly informative and helped students understand the importance of protecting and caring for their eyes in their daily lives.
